TODAY IS A 9, AND THE DRAWER OPENS ON ITS OWN

Dear Reader,

There is a contact in my phone I have not called since 2019 and cannot bring myself to delete. Somebody I know sorted out a spare-keys drawer this week and found three sets that open nothing.

Nine is the number that closes a cycle, and this is exactly its territory. Not endings with a scene attached. The ones that happened a while ago and never got said out loud.

So today something may simply stop having its old weight. A worry you have carried since spring turns out to have gone flat when you weren’t looking.

Old feeling can surface too, out of nowhere, about something you thought was long settled. On a 9 that is housekeeping rather than a relapse.

This isn’t a day built for launching things. Nine has no starting gear in it at all.

Putting something down is a whole day’s work, even where nothing shows.

WHICH ONE IS TUGGING AT YOU?
Tap it and an email opens, written for you. Naming it is enough.
The number I keep but never call
The worry that has gone flat
The thing I keep in case

4
Lucky you. Lucky life.
Let’s make magic!
FROM THE MAILBAG:
THE INVISIBLE ONES

Four came up more than any other number this week, which is why it has the ring.

D. writes: “I’m a 4 and my husband thanked me for the first time in about a decade. I cried in the utility room.”
Steady work is the hardest kind to see, including for the person doing it. A decade of nothing going wrong is not nothing happening. I’m glad he said it, and I’m glad you let it land.

L. writes: “I realised the friendship I’ve been worrying about actually ended in March.”
That is the usual shape of it. The knowing lags a long way behind the thing itself, sometimes by months, and the gap is where most of the tiredness comes from rather than the ending.

B. writes: “Does a 4 ever get an exciting year?”
Yes, and usually about three years after the dull stretch that made it possible. Four builds the floor other numbers get to dance on, which is unglamorous and completely load-bearing.

SIT WITH ONE OF THESE
Tap whichever one lands. The reply comes with the question in it.
When was I last thanked for something ordinary?
What ended before I admitted it had?
Which dull stretch of mine paid off later?
Who deserves a thank you from me this week?

You are allowed to notice an ending months late and still call it noticed.

A big hug,

Lucky Number

P.S. D., the utility room is where most of my own crying gets done as well. Nothing about that reply was an overreaction.
PUTTING SOMETHING DOWN COUNTS AS A DAY’S WORK.
