Dear Reader,
It’s the first of September, and everything about the date says begin. The number sitting underneath it says the opposite, quite gently, and I’d listen to the number.
Two is the number of pairs, patience, and the pause between things. It is the slowest number in the set and that is the whole point of it.
Something is arranging itself today and it isn’t finished. Two days are the middle of a sentence.
Expect people. A message that lands well, a coincidence, somebody saying the thing you needed a fortnight ago.
Two can tip into second-guessing. If you catch yourself collecting everybody’s opinion before you’ll trust your own, that’s the number talking, not a flaw in you.
Let it be slow. Slow is not the same as stuck.

This is the sequence readers photograph most. Till receipts, mostly. Odometers, now and then.
Eight on its own is return. Tripled, it stops reading as one event and starts reading as a cycle: money going out, coming back, going out again, which is the shape an 8 makes if you follow it round with a finger.
People want it to mean a windfall. More often it turns up when something has quietly become sustainable and nobody has said so out loud. The bills got paid three months running. The work stopped being frightening.
It also shows up in flat stretches, which throws people. Nothing is arriving, and there is 888 on the microwave clock at half past eight in the evening.
Read it as the wheel still turning rather than as news. If it has been following you around lately, take it as a note that the arrangement you built is holding.
