A 9 ran yesterday and a 1 runs now, which is this pair in its natural order. It lines up like that a handful of times a year, so I’m taking it.
Nine and 1 are the two ends of one movement. Nine lets the handle come off the door. One finds another door. Between them sits a flat stretch where the old thing has stopped and the new thing hasn’t said anything yet, and it feels a lot like nothing at all.
That stretch is where people grab at the first available thing. It’s also short, which doesn’t explain it away, but it does explain the shape of it.
In a chart, someone carrying both numbers lives in cycles other people find dramatic. They close things cleanly and then wonder why the next chapter is slow to arrive. Usually it has arrived already, in a size too small to be counted yet.
If you’ve been closing something all month, the 9 part of it is behind you. What’s left is a 1, and a 1 is quieter than anybody expects.
