WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12
TODAY IS A 3, AND IT WOULD LIKE TO BE ENJOYED

Dear Reader, a 3 landing midweek is slightly inconvenient, because Wednesday is where most people keep their least interesting meetings. The number doesn’t care about that, and it tends to come out sideways in the middle of one of them.

Three is expression, colour, and the particular pleasure of being heard. It’s the most sociable number in the set.

Conversations go further than expected today. Ideas turn up mid-sentence, which is a 3’s favourite trick. You find out what you think by saying it.

Something creative may want your attention, and it will not present itself as important. It’ll look like a distraction.

Three scatters, too. Six things start and none finish. On a 3 day that is not a failure, it’s the number doing what it does.

Let yourself be light. Light is not the same as shallow.

WHICH ONE IS TUGGING AT YOU?
Tap it and an email opens, written for you. Naming it is enough.
The thing I want to say out loud
The person I want to tell
The idea that made me laugh

3
Lucky you. Lucky life.
Let’s make magic!
THE MONEY FACE OF 3:
THE ENJOYMENT DISCOUNT

There’s a thing 3s do with money that almost nobody names. They quietly take less for the work they’d have done anyway.

It shows up as a discount nobody asked for. The quote comes in lower because the job sounded fun. An invoice gets rounded down because the client was nice. The extra round of changes goes in free. Hours go uncounted entirely, because it didn’t feel like working, and a 3 has trouble charging for anything that felt good while it was happening.

Underneath it sits an old sum: pay is compensation for suffering. Which makes enjoyment look like a refund you already took, and a 3 takes it without noticing.

It isn’t. The work is worth what it’s worth to the person receiving it, and their side of that has nothing to do with how your afternoon went.

A 3 who spots this once tends to spot it constantly afterwards, usually mid-quote. That noticing is the whole of it. Nothing has to change today for the pattern to stop being invisible.

You’re allowed to be paid properly for the thing you’d have done for free.

SIT WITH ONE OF THESE
Tap whichever one lands. The reply comes with the question in it.
What did I last knock off a price?
Which job did I enjoy too much to bill properly?
What do I throw in for free every time?
What would I charge if the work had been miserable?

Whatever comes in easily today is still yours, and it doesn’t need justifying to anyone.

A big hug,

Lucky Number

P.S. I once spent a whole Sunday on something I’d quoted four hours for, sent the invoice for four hours, and felt quite noble about it for about a week. Then I felt something else. It took me years to work out that enjoying the work and being paid for the work were never in competition.
JOY IS NOT THE REWARD. IT’S THE METHOD.
